This seems wasteful to me, too. I'd be taking things out of the pile
myself. I got my bari sax at a very reasonable price from a school that no
longer wanted it. The director should consider offering the instruments to
whoever does repairs for the school. They could at least use them for
parts, and would probably pay for them, or credit future repairs. That
would free up more money for new purchases!
