Subj: [kl] barrels

While recently getting routine repairs on my E11 (only some pads and
cork, François-Pascal didn't need to touch anything else.) the repairman
noticed my clarinet was pretty "bright" (is there a better adjective)
and not even a chadash barrel would help "darken" (ahem) it. Granted
his setup is different and he's not me but is it worth the money to buy
a new barrel then? I don't believe the one I have is reverse taper but
how can I tell?

So I can answer my own question by saying I will just have to try them
out to see which one works but just wondering if there are any
preferences or opinions or personalities of different brands.

Also, custom or mass-produced, price not being a factor?

Off the subject, does anyone have a cheap mouthpiece for the Eb soprano
clarinet that they can part with...again, cheap?

More off the subject, last Sunday I had a wonderful concert for the
Plattsburgh Community Orchestra. We played an arr. of Handel's firework
music but the 2nd clarinet didn't show for dress rehearsal so I had to
learn it overnight. Luckily it is an easy part. We played Borodine's
2me Symphonie and I had a couple 1-measure solos that were fun for me
(nevermind the rest of the ensemble ;-) ). Overall that piece is so
much fun to play and somewhat a challenge. I hope I can play it again
someday. The orchestra sounded very good and the strings were well in
tune, for once. We also played Finlandia by Sibelius and I was sitting
right in front of the first trombone. I should have brought ear plugs!
Robert Washburn conducted us for the North Country Overture, a modern
piece loosely organized into overture form. New type of music for me,
so it was rather interesting and yes did describe life in the North
Country quite well...

Thanks for any help on my other questions,
Mark
