OK, I think we're agreed that to do this tremolo we really need to hold this
pad
(which is ordinarily closed by the either the l.h. finger 2 ring or by the r.h.
rings-which
gives us the fork Eb.

Now in order to close the thing:
My original suggestion to use your right hand was pretty bad, unless you
really do happen
to have rests before and after.

I like Bowman's suggestion, if your left index finger will stretch -- on a
bass this would
be easy, but you'd need to temporarily stop up the little altissimo vent
hole with your
chewing gum. (And please-please let's NOT start a thread discussing whether
you
chew gum whicle playing the clarinet.)

I found on my bass, that I could use my right thumb (which isn't doing much
anyway) to
push up on the bridge mechanism and close the pad. (above the joint, so you
don't
make the C a B) This might be practical with a little practice.

Lean forward and use the edge of the music stand to push it down.

If (to borrow from a previous message a couple days ago) you happen to have
a horn
player who forgot his music and is playing from the full score, you could
have his page turner
run over and push the key for you!

enough already?
