My step father was a Polish Jew who had been in the Polish army during WWII
(when he wasn't in Auschwitz). He used to say he was a:

Joovish Var Weteran. Even though he could say W when it was supposed to be
V and V when it was supposed to be a W he just couldn't get it right (sort
of like when I try to play certain syncopated rhythms and keep playing on
the count because I have trouble counting and resting at the same time if I
need to pick up on the off beat).
