I had never even HEARD of double lip embouchure until I subscribed to
the klarinet list! After reading about it for a couple of years, I
decided to try it out myself a couple of weeks ago. Of course, since
I've been playing single-lip all my life, I was not able to get a very
good tone, but I was impressed with the amount of control I had (I was
practicing klezmer music, and my ability to bend pitches increased
dramatically with the double-lip!). I also found that I was able to play
more in the style I always envisioned for klezmer!
While I do not envision switching over entirely, I plan to develop this
technique as another tool in my bag of tricks!
