ACK! I never thought I could start such a long-standing war about bass
clarinets. :)

As for my personal opinion and a bit of a wrap-up...

Band directors have a rough job. I know this. They have so many things to
keep an eye on. If they're a high school director, hey, that's worse. So
many goof-off's in band can couse problems. It's quite understandable
that the band director could forget that quiet little bass-clarinetist
who isn't causing any trouble and is playing all their parts (because of
their lack of difficulty) just fine... Hey, they're not doing anything
wrong, so they don't stand out! :)

It's still wrong to forget people. I've noticed that oboes are often
forgotten as well. But, even sometimes that lonely baritone in the back
can be forgotton....so I guess when it comes to the smaller sections we
all get our share of being ignored. Sad, but true.
