You might want to listen to some of the jazz bass clarinet recordings by
Eric Dolphy. A word of warning: If you want to hear the bass clarinet
played in an acceptable symphonic/classical style, this is not that kind
of bass clarinet playing. However, if you want to hear one of the most
inventive jazz players of the 1960's on the bass clarinet, check out
Dolphy. Two good albums are "Out to Lunch" and "Last Date." They are in
the avant-garde, experimental jazz mode. You will have to listen to
Dolphy at some length to get used to his approach.
