I have been playing my Selmer Center Tone with a Selmer HS* and Rico Royale
3 1/2 reeds for quite a while now and I want to try something new. I am
quite satisfied with the sound I have with this setup but it is a bit hard
to blow and can hesitate on C, C#, and Eb. Does anyone have a suggestion for
other setups that may be a bit more free blowing? I have tried softer reeds
but they don't perform well with the HS*. I suspect that I would have to
move to a more "open" mouthpiece to use a softer reed but I am not sure how
much of a change I should attempt. By the way, one of the reasons I have the
current setup is that it provides very good tone and intonation in the
altissimo and I don't want to loose that.
