There is clearly at least the remnants of a ledger line there. The question is
whether Martino made an error or changed his mind and tried to "correct" the note
by merely obliterating the ledger line with the head of the note (I bet it
wouldn't be the first time someone's done that). I suspect he did and that the
note is intended to be a Bb. Otherwise, why does he bother with the natural sign
before the B which follows immediately? He didn't put a "reminder" on the
earlier B natural in the measure and he didn't put parentheses around the natural
he used. To me, this indicates that the natural sign is intended to cancel the
previous flat, not as a reminder. I also think it more likely that he would have
begun his variation from measure 12 on a beat rather than at the end of the first
four 16th notes. (But what do I know about composing?)

I listened to Jonathan Cohler's recording a few times to see what he played. It
goes by pretty fast but it sounds to me like he plays a Bb. (If you're
monitoring the list, Jonathan, perhaps you could verify or correct me?)

Best regards,
