Tom, I think it's time you attended Klezkamp! It takes place in the Catskill
mountains every December, for a week, and it's an intense study of Klezmer. Last
time I went, I was able to compare notes regarding Boehm and Albert System
clarinets for Klezmer music. At the time, I hadn't discovered bass sax, and I was
playing a "C" Albert System. I found that the mysterious Naftule Brandwine riffs
were a little less mysterious on that horn, since he played a "C" Albert as well.
Tarras played Bb Albert Systems, and Andy Statman owns all of Tarras' horns, as he
was his main student. Giora Fiedman? You won't learn anything about playing Klezmer
from him. Maybe you'll learn something about marching down the theatre aisle with
your clarinet pointed at the ceiling. He's the Kenny G of Klezmer!
I think you should do what our Orchestra leader does. He's most comfortable with
his Buffet Boehm, and he uses that the most. He has, however, learned certain tunes
on his Buffet Albert System, and that's what he uses for those pieces. You can use
both without switching exclusively! And if you ever want to sell your Buffet "C"
Albert..........!
Regards,
Steven Lederman
