If the nickel feels acceptable for the moment, I would wait until the
clarinet needs significant work, like a repad, since that will need to be
done anyway as part of the replating process. Of course, if you were
planning to have the instrument super-tweaked, cork pads, etc., right away
anyway, then you might as well do it as part of THAT process.
