I'd really recommend taking a *few* lessons, just to make sure
you don't develop bad habits, which I have found amazingly easy
to do on the flute. Just starter lesson and a checkup every
once in a while, maybe?
I took just three lessons this summer, and got all kinds of good
pointers I'm still working through.

Also I really recommend practicing with a mirror. My tone isn't
horrible and all the notes come out OK, so I figured I *had* to
be blowing straight into it, right? And it *felt* straight, so
it *had* to *be* straight, right? Wrong!!!

I bit the bullet and started practicing with a mirror last week
(I hate looking at myself in a mirror), and, whadda ya know, I
had quite a little downward tilt there. Straightened it up and
the tone improved 200%!

And that's my .02

Vicki
