Most metal mouthpieces are designed for playing jazz, though Selmer makes
several classical metal mouthpieces. A jazz mouthpiece usually has a more
open lay and one would use a softer reed than they would for a more closed
lay. But the question, as you stated it, doesn't mention the mouthpiece to
which you would compare the metal mouthpiece and that bit of information
must be known before the question can be answered in a yes/no fashion.The
lay of each of the mouthpieces is what must determine the strength of the
reed - the more open the lay, the softer the reed and vice-versa.
