Subj: [kl] Fobes mouthpieces

Having traveled from New Zealand to San Francisco on the way to a family
reunion, I was able to contact Clark Fobes and he graciously allowed me on
short notice to come and try a selection of his bass clarinet mouthpieces
on his own instrument. I also bought a student soprano mouthpiece to try.
As I had family members waiting for me, I was unable to spend the time that
I would have liked in Clark's excellent company, but I am able to confirm
the content of previous posts to this list concerning the quality of his
mouthpieces. My Noblet bass has never sounded better; I can now get an
acceptable dynamic range from the instrument with improved tone, etc. The
soprano mouthpiece made the old Selmer that I use for doubling much easier
to play. Now if I can persuade Clark to part with his Selmer bass on my
next trip back to the States....

Mike
