I've seen several suggested fingerings for altissimo G on this list in the very
recent past. Somewhere early on, I picked up the habit of fingering this
exactly like the top-of-staff C: thumb and register key only. This gives me a
solid note, and it seems to be in tune.

I've never seen this fingering mentioned. Am I just fabulously lucky that my
particular combination of horn and mouthpiece make this note acceptable? Or
have I just learned to "voice" up or down what would normally be a different
note?

(Come to think of it, I'm probably getting the 4th harmonic of open G, which
should be unstable on a clarinet, shouldn't it?)

This does make some altissimo runs easier; a run like D-E-F#-G flows pretty
easily with this open G.
