Subj: [kl] Student Model Clarinets and Mouthpieces

Hello all,

I have been repairing clarinets for about 23 years and have seen the
full gamut of student model clarinets. At this point in time I think that
the Buffet B-12 (No longer called Evette) is an absolutely stunning student
model clarinet. The keywork is secure, the intonation is excellent and it
has a nice sound. I bought one for my son a few years ago and he has done
quite well with it.

I also like the Vito clarinets from the standpoint of durability.
Those keys REFUSE to bend.

As to mouthpieces, I can not imagine why anyone would recommend a
Vandoren mouthpiece for a beginner when my "DEBUT" mouthpiece at $29 plays
circles around them. I agree completely with Roger Garret that the B45 is
much too open for beginners. This is the case for most student model
mouthpieces. My "DEBUT" mouthpiece has a tip opening of about 41
thousandths and can be played easily with a Vandoren 2 1/2 reed.

I would like to extend my invitation again to any bona fide clarinet
instructor or public school teacher (Send a card) to receive a "DEBUT"
mouthpiece at no charge. Send me $4 to cover shipping and I will send you a
"Debut" mouthpiece for free.

I have yet to meet anyone that does not like this mouthpiece!

Regards to all,
