I just wanted to step into the discussion of mouthpieces for beginners
that is still going on. I started playing a clarinet this past year and
was steered towards a Selmer HS*. Recently, I acquired 3 refaced
mouthpieces from Roger Garrett and have really come to appreciate them.
Now, I'm able to enjoy playing a lot more - less resistance and less
struggle is the best I can express it, along with a much better sound.

The only thing I do wonder about about, looking at the physiological
side of playing different mouthpieces, I wonder if starting on the
Selmer HS* helped me develop a better embouchure in the beginning,
because of the struggles with a difficult mouthpiece. I don't know, I
just wonder. Maybe I'm just rationalizing the purchase of an expensive
mouthpiece I've struggled with.

None-the-less, I am very pleased and impressed with the refacing work
Roger is doing, and love playing on the mouthpieces I purchased from him
through ebay. Certainly, he produces mouthpieces that make playing a
real pleasure. To anybody still searching for a good mouthpiece, I
certainly recommend trying one of Rogers. And, I do question the Selmer
HS*. Thanks for opening my eyes to the problems I've been having with
it.
