I'd have to agree with Sherry about the Yamaha YCL-20. I probably
depends on how much you want to spend. People often start on plastic because
they are less expensive and the players start when they are young. Care and
up keep of wood isn't in the fore front of the fifth graders mind. Being an
adult you might want to consider a student wooden horn like the Yamaha 32. The
stock mouthpiece that comes with it isn't great but not a bad place to start. I
usually start students out on Rico Royal 2 1/2 reeds if they have never played
any instrament. I don't know if an adult beginner's face muscles are developed
enough to start on a 3 or not. There is a plethera of student instraments out
there and the one thing to be careful is getting an instrament in good condition
that will give you a fighting chance.
