According to "Those Fabulous Philadelphians" by Herbert Kupferberg -

Daniel Bonade: 1917-22, 1924-30
Ralph McLane: 1943-51
Anthony Gigliotti was hired in 1949 and played as McLane's assistant and
backup, so I've always understood, because of McLane's illness (he died of
cancer). Kupferberg gives the official year that the title of Principal
Clarinet went from McLane to Gigliotti as 1951. Maybe someone else has more
information about the actual change of the guard - I've never been sure when
Gigliotti actually took over the day to day principal playing (as opposed to
his being officially named to the position after McLane's death).
