Al,
This is just a guess. Perhaps your Bb flat is a little leaky down there and
your A is OK? You're simply used the problem.

Subject: [kl] A-clarinet problem

When the recent discussion of Abe's register tube turned to A clarinets
(accidentally, it seems), I took out my old '73 R13 to try out the Schumann
Fantsieschtukes a rematch. However, I came across a curious occurrence (one
that I now remember happening when I first bought the horn).
The problem is this: the horn's resistance is, of course, slightly stronger
than its twin, the Bb. However, on mid-staff Bnat. and C (and perhaps C#, I
don't know), the resistance is not even half that of the rest of the horn.
It doesn't seem to sound much worse, and it makes jumping the break easier,
but I'd like to have the consistency that the polycylindrical bore is known
for (as it is hard to descend step-wise to the middle area).
Since its purchase in January, it has had a full overhaul with an average
technician. However, the problem has remained.
?
