Subject: Fw: The Galper register tube and key

The Galper register tube sounds like a wonderful, effective, ingenious =
and SIMPLE invention. But, anybody who thinks it could simply be put on =
any instrument other than a Buffet R-13 Bb is dreaming. Even a Buffet =
R-13 A clarinet couldn't accept it. The key would be too short. The =
mounting posts would be in the wrong place. And, perhaps, the tube, =
itself, would be slightly inappropriate. To put it on another MAKE of =
instrument would be physically impossible. Everything would have to be =
redesigned. However, I doubt if it would be particularly difficult task =
if one thoroughly understood Abe's design principles.

I'll take a shot at this. The tube can, and does fit other some other
Clarinets. Which ones, I am not sure, but Abe has used it very succcesfully
on some Selmers too. The principle is that the register tube must be longer
for the Bb to sound good. This tube is about 40% longer then the standard
tube. The extra length is on the outside of the clarinet (but doesn't look
bad at all), and requires a key that curves for it to feel the same to the
player. See the web page for the pictures.
