version beginning with a trumpet solo must be an American marching band
arrangement intended for parade, since one single clarinet is to soft to
be heard in a parade.

The Glenn Bainum arrangement is NOT a marching arrangement - it is a
concert march adapted to an American band setting. I have recordings of
the work played both ways - in it's original format for clarinet solo at
the beginning, and in the Bainum arrangment with cornet. I love the
Bainum version - I like the original version - but - I heard the Bainum
version first and am, therefore, non-objective!

Both are excellent concert works.
