What David Blumberg writes is true. I paid full price and do not sell the
register vent and key. You might have heard that Abe Galper is re-naming his
firstborn after me. Rumor only.

In fact, I will be paying full price for the second vent/key that I will be
buying within the next week for my planned experiments on other brands and
models of clarinet. I am doing these experiments out of curiosity. When I was
a kid, I ran a science fair in my family's living room one summer because I
really missed school. I couldn't convince my siblings and cousins to
participate (to this day they remain "normal" human beings) so I created all
the projects/displays myself.

The only real financial benefit I will derive from Abe's device is that I
might accept more gigs because playing clarinet is less work and more fun with
the device than without it. There will be some nutritional benefit, surely,
because sometimes I play for food instead of money for non-profit groups such
as a wildlife rehabilitators rummage sale that we just booked this week. Last
week I played a "wine and cheese" party at a local nursing home. The wine was
actually Chateau Welch's and probably a lot better for me than the alcoholic
variety.

The main benefit I will receive is knowing that I am spreading the word about
what I feel is an innovative and useful product. In my earlier life as a
computer journalist, I wrote hundreds of product reviews so this kind of work
comes naturally to me. If all goes well with some other experiments, I might
be publishing a small writeup about a custom maker of C clarinet mouthpieces
on my Website in the near future.

These are the kinds of articles I would like to see in print publications, but
print publications for the clarinet are sorely lacking. An electronic format
allows for easy and quick updates and photos are literally a "snap" with my
digital camera.

The only advice I would give about Abe Galper's invention is: try it. I don't
know what Abe's return or refund policy is but he seems like an accommodating
individual. David can probably elucidate this aspect for all of us. Rest
assured that un-installing the vent is as easy as installing it. I know
because I tried.
