I used to use Vandoren V12 reeds but again fell victim to the spotty
quality of these reeds. I envy those who are able to get so much out of
these reeds since the boxes I have usually have only 3 or 4 at most that
are usable. The rest have really sloppy cuts that I don't know how to
fix properly, and also have that annoying chirp-like squeak when
switching from the throat tone register to lower clarion that I just
can't seem to fix or beat.

I've recently tried some of the Rico GC's and like them--different sound
than the Vandorens that's not at all bad, but quite good. The only
problem is that I can't find a good strength of these reeds and I have a
tendency to mangle reeds when I try the reed rush (still going through
those articles, though, Fernando). I'd hate to even think about what
would happen with a reed knife.
