I did a "blind study" last week. In preparing reeds for a concert last Sunday,
I absolutely did not look at the back of the reeds I was working with. I had
Vandoren V-12's and Zondas, both in the 3 1/2 size. I had been feeling lately
that I sounded better on the Vandorens and a little thin on the Zondas.

Before the concert, in the hall, I tried out my eight best reeds. My fellow
co-principal.....who is a staunch Vandoren advocate....listened to me play. Of
the eight, we picked four reeds, any of which I could use for the concert.

To her AND my surprise, three of the four were Zondas, and one was a Vandoren.
I wound up playing the two best Zondas, a different one for each half of the
concert.
