I still enjoy playing soprano clarinet, but lower pitched instruments are my
favorites. I recently bought my own alto clarinet (used 1979 Selmer "A"
series) and thoroughly enjoy it! My younger brother played bass clarinet in
high school. I'd already moved out by then, but when I visited for the
holidays, I sometimes "borrowed" his school-owned bass out of his bedroom and
played it while he wasn't home. Loved the tone. I'd love to own a contrabass
or contra-alto someday, too.

fanatics, go to www.contrabass.com. Grant Green runs a Contra ML -

Contrabass.com is a great site with archives and databases (with much
information on unusual bass wind instruments) in addition to the ML. I found
that site because of my bass sax. If you love basso profundo, be sure to look
at the checklist accessible from the home page, which gives warning symptoms
for how you can tell if you might be a contrabass maniac.
