I have a buddy who has palyed on cruise ships for years - Holland
America - playing lead reed (clar, Alto sax, fl and picc.). He loves
it. Gets to see the world first class and get paid for it!! The pay is
not great, but it includes room and Food, food, food (yes, the band gets
the same meals as the passengers).

He works five months on, and one month off. He has a decent (but small)
room that he shares with one other guy. The good news is that when the
passengers are off the ship, they don't need a band - so the band gets
to go ashore at most of the ports (unless they call a special rehearsal
or something).

If you're single, looking to travel, and don't mind small quarters, it
could be a good gig.
