I know I didn't go to a proper music college, but I find this confusing.
Didn't I mean, second line?

I'm reminded of the story about Gervase de Peyer. Conductor X had been
getting up everybody's nose early in the morning: "...horns too loud,
strings nowhere near expressive enough, wind articulation *far* too
heavy, sounds like duh duh DUH....." etc. etc.

But then he said, "...and the first clarinet is sharp!"

Gervase was famous for being a bit sharp on occasion, so the orchestra
produced a shuffle. "What's the matter, have I said something wrong?"
asked Mr X.

Gervase, immediately, in his nasal drawl, "No, as a matter of fact, Mr.
X, you've said something *right*. Congratulations!"
