This last posting bothers me. I started thinking that maybe the piece I
had in mind was "on the banks of Green Willow" By Vaughan-Williams.

There is another important solo for clarinet starting a piece.Its
by Borodin. It's called (I think)"On the Steppes of Central Asia"
