Last week I was in Las Vegas - which has a ton of pawn shops - and I thought
I'd check around to see what they had in musical instruments. One big
dealer had a case full of old clarinets. None was at all playable. His
asking price on all of them was $300 except for one old LeBlanc for which he
was asking twice that. The Leblanc had cracks in the wood and loose keys.
Two of the clarinets were cheapo plastic clarinets that weren't worth $200
when new, and one was an old metal Cavalier or some such. When I turned up
my nose at that he told me he had a "Buffet Crampon" in the back. This was
also an unplayable old pre R-13 for which he was asking $1500. I sure hope
he wasn't selling many clarinets.

Oh, he also had a Bundy II Alto (Ycchh) for $700.

I think it would be useful to buyers of used instruments and to people on
ebay and the like to have an idea what old clarinets are really worth.
People tend to think if they have an instrument that is "old" it is worth a
lot of money.
