If your register pad is the thickness of a nickel (on b-flat or a
clarinet) away from the tone hole, the tone and pitch of throat b-
flat should not be adversely affected. Remember that a cork pad will
give less sympathetic vibration than a bladder one, and also a cork
pad can be trimmed away on the sides, such that the shape becomes
that of a truncated cone, with the impression of the tone hole as its
apex.

Surprisingly, no. But the Bb seemed to be well vented before the
modification - using the side key gave no noticeable improvement.
Might be
different on a Bb instrument, or on some other Eb. I only have the
one!
