None of the folks with all of the answers have responded, so let me attempt
my understanding of the problem.

I THINK a "grunt" is when the instrument starts producing a lower-register
tone before switching to clarion register (when the register key is open).
The lower-register "burp" is the "grunt" ??? (Maybe).

At least, I know that this happens on my Eb, and that one cure (or at least
palative measure) is to reduce the opening of the register key with a
thicker bumper, as suggested by Chuck West.

Hope this helps, and hope that if I am wrong, someone will tell me. (I
think I am safe with the last request!)

George
