Subj: [kl] chickens or eggs?

Although I'm more or less able to accept the stock mouthpiece I now use
since I don't play much, I am toying with the idea of purchasing another
one. I have gotten many wonderful suggestions from the list in the past
few months for different mouthpieces, ligatures and reeds. My question
is WHERE to start? Which comes first, the chicken or the egg, ...er, the
mouthpiece or the ligature? Do certain ones have to go together? I want
to optimize my dollar while improving my overall sound and ease of
playing - think of me in the intermediate line, please.
