As a band parent, I can tell you what happens. Most parents enter into a
rental agreement with a music store, and the monthly rental fee goes
towards the purchase price. Under that scenario, the stores charge
retail price. For example, rent is $25 per month for a year, and then
after a year, they go ahead and by a new Vito from the store for $500.
They have $300 in equity on the Vito from the rental and put down
another $200. If they just go ahead and buy the VIto in the first place,
it will cost them might, but they consider this a risk because their
child may decide not to continue playing. I purhcased a used Noblet 45
for my daughter and had it repadded
for well under the list price of a Vito.

Around here, R-13s sell from about 1850-2150, depending on the store.
There are 3 or 4 major dealers that carry a good supply of them, and a
few smaller shops that also carry Buffet and Leblanc.
