Most of us _do_ have to drive to another state if we want to check out a
good selection of clarinets. In my case, it ends up being Indiana or
Illinois - 3 1/2 to 5 hours, depending on where I go - and I have it easy!
You were lucky being in the NYC and Indiana areas - Indiana (Elkhart) has
been/is the home of many musical instrument companies.

One of the reasons the Sneezy web pages are there is for education of both
the younger student and the parents of younger students, many of which are
either spending excessive amounts of money (I'm a capitalist, but there's
limits!) or not spending any at all because of the prices. I believe in a
reasonable markup, but $25.00 a box for Mitchell Laurie reeds? I don't want
to buy the store, I just want to shop there!

I patronize a local music store for sheet music, but for nothing else. They
will not come down on their prices; as one salesman told me - "Why should
we? We don't _need_ to sell to you."

And they're the best music store in the Detroit Metro area ...
