List price is by definition what the manufacturer officially lists in their
literature as the price (it is the same as recommended selling price in
other industries). Most "band parents" get their instruments from local
music stores. Typically, local stores sell at or only slightly below list.
As Mark stated, outfits like Weiner and Woodwind/Brasswind are major mail
order discount retailers and are not accessible to the typical parent as the
parents don't know about them.
