Well, all I have to say there is hmmmmm...I've only dealt with music stores in
NYC and in Indianapolis, and Indy isn't comparable to NYC as far as music
outlets go. When my parents purchased my first clarinet, they made MANY, MANY
phone calls to get the "better" price for a biginner. I would say the first
step for a band parent would be to check ALL options, and consult a music
educator(i.e. band director) for outlets in the local area or close to it.
For my first clarinet, my parents went an hour away to get it...and as far as
that goes..i went to another STATE to get my buffet, I wanted more than 5 to
try. What I'm trying to say is, it's up to the parent when it comes to
getting the better price for the horn. If theyre up to driving to another
state, or even just to and adjacent city.
