None of these would be "local" to most people. Heck - how would most people
ever know of these stores? Most people go to their local music store (not
some major woodwind place) and have them order a clarinet or whatever on a
salesman's recommendation. The only place near me that sells reasonably good
new clarinets sells R-13s for about $3000.00 - and has only 2 or 3 in stock.
And ... I live in a metro area with well over a million people around. The
_used_ instrument places over here sell old Normandys for $600.00. I don't
think it's all that unusualm either. There are cities with major music
discounters, but the places aren't as well known as you think. Most band
parents spend around $5-600 for that first Bundy or Vito.
