The harder issue is to figure out sometimes what register the composer wants
when he writes in the bass clef. But that's a different story and well
discussed in previous posts. See the sneezy archives if you want more info.

BTW....any competent bass clarinetist can and must read bass clef fluently. I
particularly love (NOT) the parts for bass clarinet in A in bass clef. See the
bass clarinet part in Strauss "Salome". If you'll pardon the expression...it's
a bitch!
