I can buy a older Selmer Bass clarinet going to low C for about $1900.
The serial number is A 3292.
I tried it and found some negative aspects which make me doubt.
1) The instrument has a tuning neck but even with the neck completely in the
overall intonation is a bit low. This was checked with a Selmer C*
mouthpiece. Sometimes I play a Selmer H mouthpiece which makes intonation
even lower.
2) The F played with octave key (topline of stave) sounds very muffled. I
can hardly give that note any expression because its weak and hold back in
comparisson with surrounding notes.
3) The B on middle line of stave is to high.
My questions are:
-What type of instrument is this (is it a Selmer 33), and when is it made.
-Is low pitch normal for this type of instrument and can I shorten the neck
a bit?
-Is there a solution for the muffled F
