This just appeared on our Clarinet Bulletin Board on Sneezy. I figured
it was apropos considering the recent discussion on "outside" gigs.

I have a feeling this will be the weirdest bulletin posting today!

OK, I really don't belong here (I know so little about clarinets) but I
am a singer/songwriter/guitarist with a new experimental pop band called
Beauty Pill. We are based in the Washington, D.C. area. We are preparing
to start recording a self-financed CD in mid/late November (approx.)

I have written a couple of songs (particularly one called "Black Feather
Boa") which have a simple but visceral bass clarinet part (in my head at
least). I have lately become enthralled with the rich, sensual, sinister
sound of low-register clarinet. However, I do not know how to play one
or know anyone who does. I have a sampler, but I don't want to resort to
using it. I want the real thing!

Anyway, we don't have a ton of money but we would be willing to pay for
a session. We don't need a virtuoso, but we do need tone. Tone is the
main thing. The parts themselves are easy. It's all about sound and
texture for us. I guess what I hear in the bass clarinet is a certain
throbbing, syrupy sexiness combined with a sort of dark, menacing
quality. That's what attracts me anyway.

I don't know if this intrigues anyone. We record at a wonderful studio
in Arlington, Virginia called Inner Ear, but we're willing to travel.

I know it's kind of weird, but I thought it would be worth posting to
this bulletin board which I happened upon in my websearching.

Beauty Pill's music is somewhere between late-period Beatles, Nick
Drake, Tricky, The Grassy Knoll, Lindsay Buckingham and Soul Coughing.

Don't be afraid to call or contact me if you haven't heard any of the
above names. (Well, if you haven't heard of the Beatles, you should
probably not call...)

Thanks for your attention!
