And I wrote some right there! I not only saw another metal clarinet, I played
it, for my sins, for a few weeks in junior high. It was an ancient and
venereal (not a typo) Eb alto (allegedly) that the newly-built school borrowed
while waiting for shipment of our "real" school-owned instruments. How could I
have forgotten that horrible old honker?! I even wrote about this on the
bulletin board not long ago, so I won't repeat the whole story, but when the
crate of new horns finally arrived, I learned to appreciate the relative
merits of a plastic Bundy!
