Here's another view. The clarinetists(and other instrumentalists), I don't
think at least, go out intentionally and "hog" all of the work. It is up to
the musician to find work, even if it means traveling across the country. I'm
a full time clarinet performance major, and work in a community music center
giving lessons. When I finish my degree and begin working towards building my
orchestral experience, I plan on doing as much work as I can possibly stand.

Performing with an orchestra full time, instructor, chamber work, etc.;
whatever I can grab. I do understand that in some cities work in the music
industry is scarce. Most musicians don't like this, but when this problem is
noticed, it's time to move on. It's every musician for him or herself out
there. That's just the way it is now. It doesn't have to be this way, but
just is.
