A very interesting point, Dan...around here only the Toronto Symphony
players are what I would call well off in the sense of predictable income.
They generally don't seem to intersect with the freelance crowd except a
bit in new music. Everyone else is struggling; 2O-year vets are reporting
this is as tough as they've ever seen it. The remarkable thing is that
people are as friendly to each other as one sees, given the unsteadiness
of the "scene" right now around here. I wonder what it's like in major
U.S. markets, ie.do the Chicago Symphony players do a lot of outside gigs?
