A while back, David Niethamer posted an article by Mazzeo on Stravinsky's
"Three Pieces." IMHO, it makes for interesting reading. David's post was in
two parts. To find them, search the Sneezy archives on "Stravinsky and
Mazzeo" (without the quotes).

I think there are two people in all three movements -- a man and a woman.
What they are doing, I will leave to your imaginations. (I bet Dan knows --
even if there aren't any trills!) ;^)

Here's another question. In the first movement, why does Stravinsky suggest
specific fingerings (for Boehm system clarinets) which should be obvious to
any clarinetist sufficiently advanced to consider the work and then provide no
similar suggestions for the fingerbusters in the subsequent movements?

Also, we know that he had specifically pitched clarinets in mind for each of
the movements but what system did he have in mind ... or doesn't that matter?

Best regards,
Jack Kissinger
