Jim:

As a bystander I would like to observe that, to me, there was no confusion
about who wrote what. In the original reply, your entire text was followed
by your signature and separated from his reply text and signature by some
empty space and a dividing (dashed) line. I took the trouble to go back and
look, as I was rather startled by your blunt accusation that "David C.
Blumberg claims to have written" your prose. Harsh words for such a gentle
forum (except, of course, for flame wars over marching bands.)

Thank you for the explanation. It does make sense, except that the text of
my
original message was not marked as quoted text, nor was there anything
preceding my original text to indicate that you had not written it.

I have always understood that when you are quoting someone else, whether on
paper or via e-mail, it is to be clearly indicated -- particularly in an
electronic forum such as this. If I am not mistaken, Eudora attributes
quoted
text and marks the text as quoted -- automatically.

I know that when I quote text (especially multiple levels of notes and
responses) I am extremely careful to attribute each stage of the quoted
discussion to the proper author. When quoting me, please do the same.

Thanks!
