The bass clarinetist of the Toronto Symphony, David Bourque, has a bass
clarinet in A that I think he got from our own Dan Leeson, who I seem to
remember wrote an article about this horn in a past Clarinet magazine
(one point was that you can then take awkward passages on the Bb bass
over to the A, just as many symphonic soprano clarinetists do).
