According to Buffet's own web page, the R-13 was introduced in the 1950's.
Thus an older one would not be an R-13 however it should still be a very
good horn. After all, Buffet was in business for a couple of hundred years
or so before introducting the R-13 model.

As far as the case, I and my husband were successful in getting the odors
out of a sax case by repeated treatments with Lysol spray disinfectant. At
worst it might fade the material, but we did not experience any fading.
