R. Strauss' inclusion as the "official" composer of Nazi Germany was not an
honor he sought. More like accepting the Presidential Medal of Achievement
here in the U.S. today. To my knowledge, there are no anti-Semitic elements
in his music; from what I have read, he was certainly not anti-Semitic.

I do feel badly for Strauss--his music almost certainly was used by the
Nazis against his will. In either event. he was a relatively feeble old man
at the time.

Perhaps this is a rationalization because I love playing the wind Serenade
so much. I hope I don't have to change my opinion of Strauss, too.
