What is our vision of music
education in this country? Does marching help the musical development of
players? Can we do without marching band and give kids a quality music
education? Is marching band the best and most effective way to give
students a comprehensive music education? If it is not, then why do we
invest so much time, money and devotion?

 _______________

yes it can help musical development........there are a lot of young people
who would go to sleep if they had to sit in concert formation and play the
entire 1812 overture....but interpreting it musically on a field gives them
an insight they would never have taken time to learn........

why do we spend time & money......becuz its america........WE the U.S. is
glitz.....lets see who can do it bigger and better than the last.....why do
we have huge 4th of july celebrations........fireworks shows better that
 the year b4.......

becuz what we're doing has to be better and better.......if marching band
is done the correct way........you can learn nuances..........last year at
a competition i saw a school who strictly focused on musical intrepretation
of chorale & shaker dance and some other pieces....musically it was a first
place show........the only band to beat them was a group that focused more
on marching really really fast and how much mvmnt they could put to the
 pieces......

directors add more and more things becuz the public (most) get bored if you
try an intellectual approach just for the fact its not visual or
flashy........becuz one has to make their own deductions.....we as a
society have been conditioned to no make educated deductions.......

okay ill shut up now........just my 2 cents..
